Reflections(problems encountered and attempts to solve these) July 3, 2008

Reflections:

Ayuni-When we go there, it was raining heavily, thus, we could not do anything as all our scenes except the 1st one was suppose to filmed outdoors.

Dawn-When we go to Fort Siloso to film our documentary there, we were unable to do so as it was raining heavily. We could not film because most of our scenes were supposed to be film outdoors, not indoors.

Qi Hui-When we go to Fort Siloso to film our documentary there, we were unable to do so as it was raining heavily. We could not film because most of our scenes were supposed to be film outdoors, not indoors.

Brandon- I have had a few problems while doing the project work with this project, for instance deciphering of Lim Bo Seng’s letter, adding subtitles to the Elizabeth’s Choy video which is in letter and adding of the subtitles for the audio clip.

Wei Lian-I had also learnt on the importance of having a good time management. At times, I also felt that a timetable is important too.

Madeleine-Thankfully, the school allowed us to go to Fort Siloso the second time and this time round; we finished what we supposed to do because we followed our script.

Reflection(group and individual contributions to project) July 3, 2008

Reflections:
Madeleine- Some groups, they did not make eye – contact with us, the audience. Some were talking to softly thus they have to keep repeating what they have said.

Brandon-I have begun to realise the pros of working in the group and cons of working individually. Example is Lim Bo Seng’s letter, without the help of the group.

Dawn-Some of the mistakes are like for example, they did not have enough teamwork with one another. They also lack of group discussion.

Qi Hui- Some examples of groups who had some mistakes are they did not make eye-contact with the audience, they also lack of teamwork and they do not have enough interaction with each other.

Wei Lian- After the presentation, I think that the group work is very important. From the group that had presented, I think their problem was the lack of more dicussion and the plan labelled.

Ayuni- After looking at the groups’ that had presented, i felt quite scared as they seemed nervous and my classmates had asked alot of hard questions. So, i am scared that when i presented, they will ask a lot of hard questions i would not understand. Thus, i had been recently reading up on the topic and i need to be ready.

But, i think the advantage of presenting later, is that, we can make the other groups mistake as a learning point for us. I saw a couple of mistakes in their presentation. For example, they did not make eye contact with the class. Some also talk too softly and some people would not understand. When i present later, I would try to project my voice. Another mistake is that they always read off the paper they printed. It was not good as, the lesson would be very boring.

As a self reflection, I think i had did pretty well, as a leader. But, I know i had a couple of mistakes as i did not post somethings as quickly as possible. Thus, i hope i can make it better. But, overall, i am proud of what my group had done.

Explain your concept of the documentary and how does this documentary answer the project task focus or question. Explain clearly why you have chosen to present the documentary in this way.

I have done my task, and thus, you should do your too. Your tasks are not that hard, so please, post it, so that Brandon, can put it in the powerpoint slides. Thank You.

I have seen the powerpoint slides that Brandon did. It is good. But, we can make it better. There is one slide about the Lim Bo Seng letter, maybe we can add his picture so they know what Lim Bo Seng, looks like. So, brandon, can help because the powerpoint is with you. Brandon, after you have added in the picture of Lim Bo Seng, can upload the powerpoint slide in this pw blog. I want to see it again. Thanks.

We will also be showing our documentary at the end of the presentation to summarise what we have presented. So, the documentary is with Madeleine, so, Madeleine, please remember to bring your thumbdrive. Thanks.

So, yeah, that is about it. Any enquiries or doubt about anything please comment.

This is the paper Ms Lim had given us. After Brandon upload the powerpoint slide, maybe you can see if our powerpoint is ok.

Checklist for the Powerpoint Slide Presentation

1. Font Size – Is the font size big enough for the people in the back row to see ? – Is the choice of the font type appropriate to the purpose and audience ?

2. Number of Words per slide – Are our slides too crowded with words ? – Is the information in point form ? ( Ask yourselves: Would we want to read long sentences in our friends’ slides ? )

3. Emphasis – How can our group ensure important words or points are noticed ?

4. Colour – Are the background colour and the font colour well matched ? – Are the slides too colourful ? – is it all right for the slides to be colourful ?

5. Sound – Are the sound effects ( if any ) appropriate ?

That was the checklist. Please commment. Thanks.

Brandon please put this and the EC video in the powerpoint slides. Thank You.

Problems Encountered:

We have some problems when doing the discussions.

  1. We do not have the time to discuss after school as we have many homeworks and we always end school late. How we solve : We chat through the internet and give out roles or questions through the pw blog.
  2. Sometimes some of us never do some work by deadline. How we solve : Some members keep frequent posts to remind to hand in tasks by deadline. We will also sms the person to post their task.
  3. We had little information of the different people we were suppose to do about. How we solve : We will try to go library to borrow some books, and we also try and dig out info through the internet.
  4. We are rushing against the time to finish assignments. How we solve : We will always cooperate with each other to help members to finish some tasks. We will also ask some teacher whether we could have some extra time to finish it.

Discussion: Madeleine, Dawn & Weilian July 1, 2008

The 3 of us will be discussing about what a “hero” is supposed to have, or rather what are the qualities. Firstly, I think that a “hero” can be any one because someone who has good qualities and have shown values in our everyday lives, values that all of us can learn from (Or call it Role Model), like being brave or being humble. In this case, we are talking about in times of war. In war, good people will “show” us their good side. Like helping one another, being brave, regardless of punishment, torture or starvation. Elizabeth Choy, as all of you know, used to be a Prisoner Of War. She went through a grueling 200 days of countless torturing and starvation in prison along with the others captured and put in jail.  When she was freed, she was invited to England as a celebrated local war heroine that was locked up for so long and could survive the whole thing.

To me, Elizabeth Choy is a true heroine, as she had to be brave and endure the punishment/ torture given by the Kempetai.

Please comment, if you have your own views or anything that you want to ask.

I choose this picture for the setting of Maycomb because it represents the setting in chapter one. It is just a house in a big and empty land. During the olden days, there is alot of land so their house is one house with a big space of an empty land.

This is the picture i think is suitable for the setting of the Maycomb town in To Kill A Mockingbird.

This pictures shows that the houses are near together. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, it says that the houses are close together and they knew everybody there. Thus, since they knew everybody, their houses should be near together. Thus, i think this picture suits the text.
